Navajo #1
1 C flour
1 t baking powder
1/4 C powdered milk
1/4 t salt
warm water
Combine the ingredients and slowly add enough warm water to form dough. On a lightly floured surface, knead dough until it is smooth soft and not sticky. Cover and let rest 1 hour. Shape into small balls and pat into flat circles about 1/4-1/2 inch thick. Set aside.
In skillet, heat 1/2 inch vegetable oil. Brown dough circles on each side and drain on paper towels.
Serve with chile beans and your favorite taco toppings for "Navajo Tacos."
Navajo #2
3 cups unbleached flour, sifted
1/2 cup dry powdered milk
1 Tbs. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup warm water or milk
2 quarts oil for deep frying
Combine the first 5 ingredients in a large mixing bowl and knead until smooth and soft, but not sticky. Depending on the altitude and humidity, you may need to adjust the liquid or the flour, so go slowly and balance accordingly. Be careful not to overwork the dough, or it will become tough and chewy. Brush a tablespoon of oil over the finished dough and allow it to rest 20 minutes to 2 hours in a bowl covered with a damp cloth. After the dough has rested, heat the oil in a broad, deep frying pan or kettle until it reaches a low boil (375ยบ). Pull off egg-sized balls of dough and quickly roll, pull, and path them out into large, plate-sized rounds. They should be thin in the middle and about 1/4 inch thick at the edges. Carefully ease each piece of flattened dough into the hot, boiling oil, one at a time. Using a long-handled cooking fork or tongs, turn the dough one time. Allow about 2 minutes cooking time per side. When golden brown, lift from oil, shake gently to remove bulk of oil, and place on layered brown paper or paper towels to finish draining.
Serve hot with honey, jelly, fine powdered sugar, wojape, or various meat toppings.
Hint:
The magic is in frying the bread quickly! The hotter the oil, the less time it takes to cook. The less time it takes to cook, the lighter the texture and lower the fat content.

2 cups warm milk
Shortening for deep frying

Seminole

3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 cup milk

OH! GUESS WHAT!!!

I got special permission to watch Joseph!!!!! So send it my way!!! I can't wait to see Paul and Jacob perform!!! :D

So much excitement!!!!‏

Ah! This week has been absolutely amazing!!!!! Even if I've had to wear a brace.  But update on that, my wrist is doing MUCH better! :D  It usually feels just fine until now when I have to type a million words per minute.

So, Shane was baptized!!!! :D  And it was an amazing weekend because of it!  Funny moments - Shane had done a practice thing with Brother Black in our last lesson so he knew kinda what to expect.  So he gets into the water, gets in the arm holding position thing, and before a word can be said he starts to lean back to go into the water.  We had to quickly stop him and tell him that a prayer needed to be said first.  Then when the prayer was being said, Brother Black forgot to say his name the first time around and so we had to stop that one mid-prayer and start over once again.  But after that it went smoothly.  And it was just absolutely fantastic.  When Shane was confirmed on Sunday and received the Holy Ghost it was just so powerful!! It's incredible that this has all happened in a mere two weeks.  It still doesn't even seem real.  And guess what!!!! Shane is now an Aaronic Priesthood holder as well!!!! And we got to be in the room when he was ordained a Priest!!! :D  Which was by total accident.  We had already gone out to the car to leave the church and then realized we needed to get a paper signed.  We were about to just leave and do it another day, but decided otherwise and went inside.  We go to find Shane and find out that he's in an interview with the Bishop to get the Aaronic Priesthood! So we waited around and got to witness that.  It was just... AH! I loved it so so so much.  The Spirit was SO strong that day!!! :D

Also on Sunday, I got to perform a musical number with Sister Navarro.  She played Ukulele and we both sang Come Thou Fount.  It was so cool!  Sister Navarro is just amazing.

Oh!  And on Monday we got to go out with a new missionary for her first night!!! That was exciting.  We took her to two lessons so she could get a feel for missionary work.  The poor soul, she had just flown in from Provo just earlier that day so she was exhausted, but it was so great.  Sister Ledford and I at least had lots of fun with it :)

Random fact - We exceeded our monthly goals!!!! I haven't done that my entire mission.  But we finally had realistic goals this month and we did better than we thought we would!!! So that was a really great thing to do.

Oh!  And this week we had an awesome activity with the scouts!  We went to their pack meeting and had them write their testimonies in a book of Mormon we gave them. Then they gave them back to us so others could read their testimonies and be touched by them.  I sent a picture of one.  They were just the cutest thing ever.  But then after the testimonies were written out, we had them act out the story of Ammon and King Lamoni.  Sword fighting, cutting off arm and all :)  It was just a blast!!! I don't have any pictures of the night sadly, but it was so great.  We had cut out paper arms so the "bad guys" could actually lose their arms when Ammon hit them with his cardboard sword.  And then the King Lamoni (our Sunday School teacher Brother Roundy) "fainted" at the end when he heard the gospel message Ammon had to share.  And then everyone fainted to the floor.  It was just hilarious.  And the little boys ate it up like none other.

Those were the bigger highlights of this week... I can't think of much else.  Sister Ledford and I are doing well.  We're continually growing and learning.  Which is great! :D

I received my Sister Training Leader assignments this past week!  I'm assigned the St. Michael's and Gallup Sisters.  So that'll be a good 4 hour drive every time we have exchanges... which will be 4 different times.  Once for each Sister.  It should be an exciting transfer!  I still don't know how I'm gonna pull off all the exchanges, but it will all work out.

And yeah!  I hope you're all doing fantastic!! I love you all!!!! :D
Love,
Becca :)

Our zone/district

Our District still can't take a normal picture... but here we are!  This is who we've been hanging out with the past 6 weeks.

Transfers

Guess where I've been transferred to!!!???!!!

... Flora Vista/Aztec 1st.   Yep!  I'm gonna be spending an entire 7 months in this area at this rate, but I love it with all my heart so I'm okay with that.  If anyone doesn't know, my (at this point it feels like it'll be permanent) address is P.O. Box 719 Flora Vista NM 87415.  I'll still be with Sister Ledford and we'll be finishing up her training.  It should be great! :D  This next transfer hold a lot of excitement with roughly 4-5 baptisms lined up.  We're stoked!

This week, well, as you could see in the pictures I sent, I'm in a brace now.  And I dislike typing at this point.  It's no bueno.  But how did I injure my wrist you might ask??  ... I got up from off the floor.  Yes, I managed to injure myself from the short trip from floor to standing.  There was a loud pop and then pain. But it's all good cause one of our bishops is a doctor! :D  So I obtained a brace from him and now all is well.

Miracle of the week: Flora Vista has a new investigator!! And she's on date to be baptized February 20th!!!! :D We are so so so excited for her!  Her name is Melissa and she's half Native and half hispanic.  She calls herself a Navajo Taco ;)  I love her so much!  She has such an amazing energy and she just loves life and this gospel! Her friend/coworker that lives in Kirtland introduced her to the gospel and she just can't get enough of it.  This experience has definitely reassured me that the best missionary work comes from the members.  Melissa came to church yesterday and just was so excited!  And when we asked her to be baptized in our first meeting with her she said she was so excited she wanted to scream.  And we are now called "mama".  It makes me laugh :)  She calls everyone Mama, and it suits her so well.

I went on the last exchange of the transfer last week!  And the process will be starting all over again this coming week... joy.  Poor Sister Ledford is basically never in the area when we're going through exchanges.  And I have a feeling we'll be assigned 3 companionships this transfer rather than just 2 because there are 5 more areas that have opened to Sisters. Whew!  We're gonna be staying busy!  Which is the best kind of missionary life! :)

Man... those are the best experiences of the week really.  I can't think of much else that happened.  We're still just working with Shane and the other people we have on date.  Shane's being baptized this Friday!!! We are so so so excited!!! :D  Sister Ledford is giving a talk on the Holy Ghost and I'm conducting the music.  We just can't even wait!  We're gonna be making a scrapbook for him of the day - should be good! :)

And yeah... that's life in New Mexico.  It's cold, snowy, and miracle filled.  We're just loving life here.

Family, I got my letter of shame.  And I laughed a lot.  We FINALLY are having a normal P-day today, so you can definitely expect letters :)

I love you all with all my heart!! And I hope you're doing well!!!
Love,
Becca :)

cut-outs

Cerina Tanner sent these pictures she took of Becca and her companion Sister Prichard when they came to visit her tonight.  "You have an amazing daughter.  She is truly a blessing.  I I have a grandson on a mission in Jamaica right now.  I would give anything to get some pictures of him like this.  Hope you enjoy."
